If you find yourself asking this question, then you need to find out what is the cause in order to prevent further fish loss. I have created a checklist for you to help you figure out what the problem is.
Questions that you need to ask yourself include:
-Are all my fish compatible with each other?
If you are unsure, please check out this article: What Fish Are Compatible With My Fish.
For example, if you have guppies in the same tank as a black tip shark, then most likely the shark ate your guppies.
If you are certain that all the fish are compatible, then check the next tip.
- Have I checked underneath the aquarium decorations? Sometimes they fish may hide behind or underneath aquarium decorations. If you have searched everywhere and you still can't find them, then there might be another cause.
- Have I checked the water parameters? If the water parameters are off, the fish may have tried to jump out to "escape" the poor water conditions. Check all around your aquarium and see if you can find any of the missing fish.
Some fish also try to escape the poor water conditions by swimming up into the filter. It is always a good idea to search there as well. If the fish are small enough they might get sucked up into the filter as well.
I hope this helps you solve the mystery of the disappearing fish!
