One of the worst things that can enter your aquarium is a parasite. Parasites not only wreak havoc on your system, they also can harm your fish. One type of these harmful parasites are called Planaria Worms.
Planaria worms are a parasite that can appear in aquariums where there is high ammonia and lots of uneaten fish food.
If you find that you have these little creatures in your tank and are wondering how to get rid of them, you have come to the right place.
Here is the best way that you can eliminate this parasite from your tank:
The Manual Route:
- Do a water change (30-50%) and vacuum the gravel. By vacuuming the gravel you will eliminate the uneaten food that is the parasite's food source. Cleaning the aquarium also helps get rid of the high ammonia levels that are present in the tank.
- Do weekly water changes thereafter to rid your aquarium of the planaria parasite.
After doing the water changes you will begin to notice that there numbers will be less and less over time.
*This is the preferred route since it is the least stressful on the fish. Sometimes if the infestation is great, it may be better to take a more drastic approach and use chemicals in the aquarium.
