Fish of the Week: Longfin Bannerfish

Type: Saltwater

A.K.A: Longfin Bannerfish, Black and White Heniochus, Poor mans' Moorish Idol, black and white bannerfish, threadfin bannerfish, pennant coralfish, heniochus

Scientific Name: Heniochus acuminatus

Origin: This fish can be found in many places, some include Japan and Africa

Temperment: This is a peaceful fish. However, they may head butt with other butterfly fish in order to establish dominance.

Life Span: Can live approx. 5 - 19 years in captivity.

Salinity: 1.020 - 1.025

Aquarium Conditions:

- temp: 72 - 78

Minimum Aquarium Size: The bigger the aquarium, the better. The recommended minimum tank size is 55 gallons as this fish can get relatively big.

Fully Grown Size: 10 inches

Food: This fish will eat flake food and veggies. If you have reef in the tank, you may find this fish eating eat. Don't keep this fish in a reef aquarium unless you are comfortable with it getting chewed on.

Breeding: These are not usually bred in captivity. This fish is caught then sold in aquarium stores. It can be difficult to breed this fish.

Sexing: This fish is difficult to sex being that there are no external means of sexing.
