Fish Of The Week: Cockatoo Cichlid

Type: Freshwater

A.K.A: Crested Dwarf Cichlid, Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid

Scientific Name: Apistogramma cacatuoides

Origin: South America

Temperment: Can get aggressive during breeding season but is otherwise a community fish.

Life Span: 3-5 years

Aquarium Conditions:
- ph: 6.0 - 8.0
- temp: 73 - 79 °F

Minimum Aquarium Size: 20 gallons

Fully Grown Size: up to 3.5 inches

Food: Will accept a wide range of food options from fish flakes to bloodworms and brine shrimp. This fish enjoys a mixed diet of food.

Breeding: This fish lays eggs in a cave or in well hidden areas. Provide lots of little cave-like aquarium decorations if you plan on breeding this fish.

Sexing: The females are smaller in body size when compared to the males.

Tank Mates: Fish that are same size or smaller and are a community fish.

Fun Fact: This fish comes in a variety of colors.
